RETHINKING SCHOOLS is dedicated to improving our nation's public schools.
Designed primarily for use by educators working in elementary and secondary
schools it is respected for its independent perspective on school reform
issues. It seeks to provide hands-on examples of ways teachers can promote the
values of community, justice, and equality while teaching academic skills at
the same time. Each issue discusses current issues in education such as school
vouchers, the "no child left behind" testing controversy as well as topics such
as how to break down early prejudice in 5-6 year olds, how to establish a
curriculum that is grounded in real life experience of students, and how to
analyze messages about race and gender common in children's literature. The
magazine also includes an assortmant of essays, poems, interviews, short
stories, creative teaching ideas, lesson plans, reproducible student handouts,
and teaching tips, all of which are often accompanied by an annotated
bibliography and resource guide. |
